A superb late GEORGIAN (during the reign of George IV) FULL LEATHER hardback edition entitled  The Rambler,  Volume 3 by Samuel Johnson (1709-1784). It was printed for C. and J. Rivington, G. and W. Nicol, et al., in 1823.
The Rambler was a periodical paper.  This book contains a biographical preface and SEVENTY-FIVE complete essays originally published in the paper between 1751 and 1752.  The author is Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) and this is the third volume of a set, but is Vol 18 of a bigger series of vintage books entitled “The British Essayists; with Prefaces Historical and Biographical.” The contents include: Idleness, an Anxious and Miserable State,  The Folly of Annual Retreats into the Country,  The Necessity of Literary Courage,   A Critical Examination of Samson Agonistes, The Cruelty of Parental Tyranny,  The Nature and Remedies of Bashfulness  and much more …
The book measures 6.25 inches x 4.25 inches. The 380 pages are nice and neat and a little faded with age.  The binding is good with no loose or missing pages. There are NO inscriptions and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book. The full-leather hardback cover is in good condition for its age, with wear around the corners and spine cranked at hinge. The gold on the spine and front board is good. A wonderful GEORGIAN edition, a rare chance to take a Ramble from a comfortable reading position.
