He found the experience so stimulating that on leaving the R.N. he established a forge at Penrhos. Over time, by improving his skills and knowledge with further instruction in Blacksmithing. Between 1980 and 2005 he did work for the National Trust, Port Meirion, Gwynedd County Council and many private commissions in the U.K. and abroad.
Our story starts at the forge’s cottage gate, a prize-winning artistic design with Celtic and Viking scrolls. A for-runner to Dave’s magnificent garden gate, a unique piece of Blacksmithing.
From humorous Dragons tumbling across the gate’s top bar. The gate’s perspective design moved towards the garden behind it. To open this magical gate you divide the highly decorated gold-leaf panel and step inside any gardener’s dream. Moving inside is a view, a landscape, garden seats, ornate iron-wall fencing as far as you could see.
Back to Dave and George looking and talking about metalworking, pneumatic power hammer, rows of shelves storing tools and examples of wrought ironwork. Towards the back a fully equipped machine workshop. There are now very few working smiths, some can be seen in a few Museums around Britain today. Finally, your cameraman Michael Robert Mumford, Director, Editor & Publisher TALKING Series of Interviews records what is overlooked by the media and may have been lost for all time.
