Additional information

New Puck
Puck was the first successful humour magazine in the United States with colourful cartoons, caricatures and political satire concerning issues of the day.
It was published from 1871 until 1918. A collection of Puck cartoons dating from 1879 to 1903 is held by the Special Collections Research Centre within The George Washington University.
Political satire is satire that specializes in entertainment from political events. It has also been used with subversive intent where political speech and dissent are forbidden by a regime, as a method of advancing political arguments where such are expressly forbidden.
Political satire is usually distinguished from political protest or political dissent, as it does not necessarily carry an agenda, nor seek to influence the political process. While occasionally it may, it more commonly aims simply to provide entertainment. By its very nature, it rarely offers a constructive view in itself. When it is used as part of protest or dissent, it tends to establish the error of matters rather than provide solutions.
Mumfordbooks have published a series of cartoons based on the original Puck and Judge cartoons. Michael Robert Mumford the author and creator of these updated cartoons, has specially selected the originals. Each Puck and Judge have retained their overall design, and small changes are added to convey their message to the public today. In most cases their original message reads the same, history and human nature stay the same. Each cartoon’s title will be updated to add to their political meaning, bringing a newer understanding and ever evolving truth.
