A detailed and definitive work. The author obtained permission from Lawrence to use copyright material and has attempted a critical study of the man and his time with the Arabs. Lawrence of Arabia (remember the film), now is your chance to read Lawrences personal account how a special kind of Englishman did a great deal more than just his duty. The First World War had already started and Kitchener was Chief of the Army. To help start a rebellion of the Arabs against the Turks would enable England, while fighting Germany, simultaneously defeat her ally Turkey. Their knowledge of the nature and power and country of the Arabic-speaking peoples made them think that the issue of such a rebellion would be happy, and indicated its character and method. So they allowed it to begin, having obtained formal assurances of help from the British Government.
