These flying monsters have a fully-loaded weight of no less than 181 tons, and a top speed of 650 m.p.h. This huge swept-back wings have a span of 185 ft. Each wing has three phases. The first, nearest the, is the thickest and steeply swept-back. It contains the buried jet engines, four Armstrong Siddeley Sapphires, each of 8,000 pounds thrust, two in each wing.

When Dan Dare first powered his way on to the pages of the Eagle comic in 1950’s, his heroic exploits were an immediate sensation, as schoolboys up and down the land marvelled at tales of his intergalactic space travel.

number of artists who worked on these cutaways, but chief among them was L. Ashwell Wood, who drew for the comic throughout its
reign.
