The Steel Family Album is of pressed leather with four ceramic half-circles on the corners. Photographers by L.M.Baker 228 & 232 South Street, Columbus, Ohio and C Duhem & Bro. over P. O. Larumer Street Denver, Col. The latch is ornate with the same ceramic circle on it. It measures 4 x 5 1/4 x 2 3/4 . The inside photos are generally 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 . The unfortunately, the binding is gone and the albums thick card pages are loose. The real treasure lies within the covers. This album seems to be from the 1860s-1880s. There are 20 CDVs and 26 tintypes, one of them is quarter-size with an embossed matt. Three blank pages, 3 photographs missing. Many of the photos are of children and family members, the same face as they grow to old age. My favorites are young girl with the long curls and the striped socks. A nice portrait is of two Cowboys in their best cloths, both wearing large hats. An old man with a sort trimmed beard. Many of the tintypes have hints of tinting. There is only two names written in the index to portraits page, identify the first CDV as Grandma Steel. I have not removed any of the pictures to look at the backs. The pages are fragile some photographs are loose, a rare surviving family album, now a very rare, a reminder of those early American Settlers.
